Having been brought up on a family-working farm, Richard Hudson's relationship with art and the environment started at a young age through outdoor walks in the English countryside with his artist mother and he has been captivated by the world’s ever-changing landscapes ever since. What he attempts to capture, to enclose, as a kind of homage, is a form around which on every surface it is possible to trace a continuous line that holds frozen in its moment, the flux, shape and movement of the billions of particles that nature draws together from their unbridled chaos to create pure natural beauty... that is the essence of his practice.
Hudson's strong affiliation with nature is evident in CRAB, with its organic character that alludes to the most fundamental elements of life: nature and the environment that sustains us. The choice of material means that reflection is at the heart of his work, bringing everything in the vicinity into the sculptural space and creating a symbiotic relationship between artwork, viewer, and setting.
